How to block someone on TikTok

Blocking from a profile, a comment, a DM or in bulk — plus what a block does not cover, and which of TikTok's quieter controls fits better than blocking does.

Blocking someone on TikTok takes three taps from their profile. The part worth knowing is what it does and does not cover, because blocking is an account-level control and the thing people usually want is a person-level one. Those are not the same, and the gap between them is where blocking disappoints.

The short version

Open their profile → three dots (or the share arrow) at the top right → Block → confirm. It takes effect immediately, works the same on iPhone, Android and the website, and no notification is sent.

All four produce an identical block. Which one you use is just a question of where you happen to be standing.

From their profile

Tap their username or avatar to open the profile. Searching the handle works if you have no post to tap through from.
Tap the three dots at the top right — on some builds this is the share arrow, and the menu is the same.
Choose Block, then confirm.

The profile then shows that you have blocked the account, which is also how you undo it.

From a comment

Press and hold the comment. The menu that appears offers to block the person who wrote it, and lets you delete the comment in the same motion. This is the efficient route when the comment is the entire problem, because the two jobs — stop them returning, remove what they left — usually need doing together.

From a direct message

Open the conversation, then the options at the top right, and block from there. The thread stops accepting messages in both directions. It is not erased, so if you want the conversation gone, delete it separately.

Several accounts at once

The comment view on your own video supports selecting more than one commenter and blocking the batch in a single confirmation, in the region of a hundred accounts at a time. That matters when a video attracts a coordinated pile-on, where blocking individually is slower than the comments arrive.

What blocking actually does

They cannot open your profile while signed in to that account.
Your videos leave their feed, their search results and their following list.
Their content disappears from your side too. The wall faces both ways, whether or not you wanted that half.
The follow breaks in both directions. Unblocking does not put it back.
No new comments, likes, mentions, duets, stitches or messages from that account.
They cannot tag you or add you to a mention.

What it does not do

This is the section most guides skip, and it is the one that decides whether blocking is the right tool for your situation.

It does not hide a public account from the internet. A blocked person can sign out, or use another account, or open a link a friend sends them, and see everything. Blocking constrains one login, not one human.
It does not delete what they already posted. Comments they left, duets they made and videos of yours they reposted are all still there. Blocking stops the next one.
It does not survive a new account. Anyone determined enough to register again is unblocked by definition, which is why blocking alone is not a response to harassment.
It is not private. Nobody is told, but the effect is visible the moment they look for you.

If it is harassment, report as well as block

Blocking is a personal setting: it changes what you see and it teaches TikTok nothing. Reporting the account or the specific video puts it in front of moderation, which is the only route that can act on repeat accounts. For threats or anything involving a minor, report and keep a record — screenshots and links — before you block, because blocking makes the evidence harder to reach.

Tools that fit better than a block

Blocking is blunt by design. Several softer controls solve the more common problems more precisely.

Go private. Under Settings and privacy → Privacy, a private account means only approved followers see your posts. This is the only setting that limits everyone at once rather than one account at a time.
Filter comments. You can hold all comments for review, filter keywords, or turn comments off per video. Better than blocking when the issue is a theme rather than a person.
Restrict who can message you to followers or to nobody, which stops unwanted DMs without touching anybody's account.
Turn off duet and stitch, globally or per post, if your videos are being reused in ways you did not intend.
Remove a follower quietly from your followers list — it does not block them and they are not told.

How to unblock someone

Two routes. From their profile, open it and tap Unblock. Or work through the list: Settings and privacy → Privacy → Blocked accounts, which shows everyone you have blocked and unblocks with one tap each.

Unblocking restores visibility, not the relationship. Neither of you follows the other again, and TikTok will not rebuild the follow for you.

Blocking during a LIVE

On your own LIVE you can act on a viewer from the comment stream without leaving the broadcast — tap their comment and block, or mute them for the session if you would rather not make it permanent. Muting is usually the better call mid-stream: it is reversible, it is invisible, and it does not require a decision while you are on air.

Does TikTok tell someone when you block them?

No notification is sent. But it is not a secret either: your profile stops loading for them and your videos disappear from their feed, so anyone paying attention can work it out.

Can a blocked person still see my videos?

Not while signed in to the blocked account. If your account is public, they can still see your posts by logging out, using a different account, or opening a link someone sends them. Blocking is per account, not per person — making your account private is the control that limits everyone.

What happens to their comments when I block them?

Blocking hides the account from you but does not sweep up everything they have already written. Deleting a comment is a separate action, and blocking straight from a comment lets you do both at once.

Do we stop following each other?

Yes. Blocking breaks the follow in both directions, so unblocking later does not restore it — one of you has to follow again.

How many people can I block on TikTok?

There is no practical ceiling on the total, and the comment section lets you select a batch of accounts and block them together rather than one at a time.

Can I block someone who has not interacted with me?

Yes. You only need to reach their profile, which you can do by searching for the username. Nothing has to have happened first.

Does blocking stop direct messages?

Yes, in both directions, and the existing conversation stops accepting new messages. It does not delete what was already sent.
